The NGHS 21st Century Learner’s Studio strives to assist students in achieving the highest level of learning through the essential and natural process of research and world exploration. The studio will develop learners’ essential metacognitive (thinking about thinking) skills while adhering to the national common core standards as well as those set forth by the state of Georgia (GPS) and Gwinnett County Public Schools (AKS) in an effort to set students up for greater success as life-long learners and leaders well beyond the classroom.
To create self-motivated, self-advocating life-long learners who seek real solutions and synthesize real products when seeking the inherent interests of not only the student, but the community they are a part of as well.
In the inaugural year of The Studio program, students competed in a friendly logo-creation project as an introduction to the course. The winning logo was called 'Golden Gears' and was designed by a group of young ladies who described the symbolism of the gears claiming the representing 'always working minds,' 'a high level of work and achievement,' and ' collaboration'. The original logo included several gears; today, their is only one golden gear prevalently displayed as the 'O' in Studio. No matter a singular gear or multiple, the golden gear stands as testiment to what the class is all about: problem solving, collaboration, and real world work.
